Inspired by Kitchens//

Happy Monday everyone! So, I’ve been mad inspired by kitchens lately. I don’t know if it’s the anxious feeling I get wanting my own kitchen to make beautiful, or the fact that I’ve been helping meet with clients and I get so many ideas in my head for their own kitchens, either way, people of Pinterest I apologize for all the posts!

I wanted to put some design boards together, similar to what I did for Arhaus of different styles, but also my dream kitchen! I want to work on putting design boards together with everyone in mind because I know we all like different styles and pieces. That being said, I hope you find something for yourself, and these inspire you to maybe do a little spruce! SIDE NOTE: If you want to spruce, contact me! I will now be working with clients part time! AHHH! I’m so excited!

Alright.. now onto the kitchens…

Rustic Traditional//

Living in Indiana, I know that most of us have a more rustic style, and we tend to stick to more traditional looks that goes well with that rustic/country feel. So I wanted to put together a design board with some ideas that show off how new paint, a different sink, and new hardware, can really pull your kitchen into this century.

In Indiana, kitchens can feel like the heart of the home, so don’t you want it to look it’s best?

Side Note: replacing countertops to beautiful granites or even something unique like a butcher block wood look is so fun! I know this adds expense, but if you’re going all out, keep that in mind!

Modern Boho//

We all know a more boho look is my favorite, but I like a mix of the bright colors of the boho with the blend of the modern that’s making big waves. I love that this style allows some creativity with color, but also has crisp lines and can remain simple all at the same time OR you can still stay more rustic with adding color with rugs, and more modern hardware, keeping a wood theme involved as well.

This style involves so many options, and can serve as a great look for a couple/family that can’t completely decide on one style.

Modern Glam//

I wanted to add one more style, that is unique in the sense that it pretty much sparkles! I love adding touches of glam, but these kitchens have the pieces that give you that immediate WOW-factor. For those ladies(or gentlemen) that love everything to be shiny and sparkly, very modern, and clean, this is perfect for you! These kitchen inspire me so much, I just don’t know if I could pull it off with my casual style.

I hope you all are as inspired as I am, but the variety you can choose from to make your kitchen go from drab to fab!  At least it brought some beauty to your Monday!

What Does it Need?//

Happy Thursday designers! I don’t know about you, but I’m ready for my extended weekend!

As I’m finishing up each room in our place I’m realizing that you always have those questions of, what else does the room need? Do you have those moments? You can’t put your finger on it, but it just needs something else? Well I’m here to help! Let me take you through some of the things I look for when I’m thinking my room needs something.

  1. Texture

I’m big on texture. I love fluffy pillows and blankets, wood-grained vases, and table runners. It’s amazing how a piece of cloth, fur, or something earthy can bring a lot to a room instantly.

2. Pattern

For the most part, I like neutral pallets, but I honestly do believe there’s such thing as too neutral. If you’re sticking with tan and creams, make sure you find neutral based decor with a pattern. The pattern adds depth and makes the color scheme seem to have more emphasis. I prefer to do a neutral pallet with some extra bold patterns either thrown into the room with a rug, a piece of wall art, or even painting the wall with a design.

3. Color

Now, since I do more neutrals to keep things light, and airy, I try to find one item to really add a pop to the room. I’m a HUGE lover of rugs. Top place I find them, Urban Outfitters Online. They have the BEST colorful, pattern-filled rugs. Another wonderful place is Anthropologie, but UO is usually more in my price range.  You can also do this with a statement piece of art, bold pillows on a neutral couch or bedspread, or again, paint an accent wall with your complimentary color.

4. Personalize

Last, add something personal. I love basing my rooms off something personal each time. My living room is just tons of arrows. I love arrows, the significance of their story, moving forward into greatness inspires me. Our bedroom, I have pieces of my grandmothers in jewelry, and mirrors with gold accents to go with the navy, and gold theme. Our guest room is very personal. It’s our travel room. We have a map marked with the places we’ve been together, wood statues of animals from trips and pictures to keep the memories alive. It doesn’t matter what it is, but a home ALWAYS feels put together when each room feels personal.

Hope this helps those of you stuck with the details!

Tips for an Inviting Entryway//

Entry ways are the first thing people experience when entering your home, whether that be a house or apartment, you want to make it feel inviting with their first step.

Now with homes, you more than likely will have more to work with, but apartment entry ways can be crowded and tricky. Overall, the goal is to make it feel clean and open for everyone.

Here are my ideas:

  1. Keep it clean

Obviously you’re living in the house day in and day out, so we have a tendency to just throw our shoes off so we can get relaxed, but for the days you know you’ll have visitors make sure you have storage and organization to make your entry space not over crowded with shoes and junk from the every day. They don’t want to be stepping over your mess as they say hello!

2. Make it Inviting

People don’t want to walk into your home’s entryway with a view of cold walls and dullness. You want the entry way to feel warm, like it’s almost saying hello for you(I know cheesy). It’s the first statement of your home though! Make it say hello, literally with these cute signs!

3. Add your personality and style

Your entryway is the first piece of you people get to experience when they come into your home. If you have a specific style you’re going for, start it there. You can easily make something functional and trendy all at the same time. Don’t be afraid to be creative and embrace you. Here are my favorites to replicate currently….

I’d love to see some of your entryways- email me for ideas if you’d like!

Dream Kitchens//

So I’ve been in design idea overload for numerous reasons…

  1. A new design book for Christmas (thank you in-laws!)
  2. Marathon’s of Fixer Upper
  3. Chris and I are house searching
  4. Registries are completed

Needless to say, I am completely overwhelmed with different ideas, but lately I’ve been dreaming about my kitchen.

Our registry is full of aqua blues, golds, silvers, and whites. I’ll be doing an airy, theme with pineapple accents! I’ve already bought two pineapple pieces!

So, here are my top 3 options and ideas for kitchens…

{I realize I have no idea what we’ll be working with, but obviously these are more “dream” than reality}

  1. Gold and Grey

This kitchen is glamorous, light, and beautiful. Here are the key elements…

  • Marble Counter Tops
  • Farmhouse Sink
  • Gold fixtures
  • Gray and Gold cabinets
  • Pineapple accents

2. White, Wood, and Mint

This kitchen is a bit more casual with a splash of mint making it simple, yet colorful.

Key Elements…

  • Butcher block counters
  • Gold handles
  • Open Shelving
  • Mint Subway Tiles for color

3. Mint, Marble, and Copper

This adds my favorite elements from both kitchens to make a glamorous, colorful, yet simple kitchen all in one.

Key Elements…

  • Copper Accents
  • Marble/White counter tops
  • Mint cabinets

Seriously, how am I every going to choose?

Mood Board: Office Edition//

My biggest dream of the future is owning my own residential, interior design company. With that comes a home office and I want it to inspire magic! As Chris and I look at apartments, we’re hoping for a two bedroom and some of that two bedroom with be my “office”. Although, most of the items I love below I cannot afford at the moment, this is what I really dream about my office looking like. Magic, right?

No gold! I know! But I have to give the silver lovers something to look at too!

Bedroom Dreamin’//

Last week I posted a mood board with ideas for our soon-to-be living room. As I finished up our registry last week I found myself switching and planning even more for all our rooms, especially our bedroom. I think having a comfortable haven as a bedroom is so key to relaxation and comfort.

So, with that being said, here are my many ideas and loves for our bedroom look. Chris is thankful as well since our bedroom is more neutral and masculine rather than paisley, and girly! 😉

Enjoy these ideas, and make the most of your day!

Simply White: 2016 Color of the Year//

Benjamin Moore has announced their 2016 color of the year as, Simply White.

I could have called that one, y’all. The overwhelming neutral trends that keep popping up everywhere made it a guarantee that the upcoming color of the year would be more than likely neutral to match.

I decided to make a mood board once I found out about the color of the year announcement. My mood is very raw and natural. White and wood go together so well. Pair that scheme with tons of windows and natural lighting and you’ll have a light, warming room.

Here are a few of my ideas:

  1. Reclaimed wood
  • Using reclaimed wood adds different tones and shades to the wood color. Although the pallet is still rather neutral, having those different shades in the wood you’re using adds a bit more depth and texture to the look.

2. White-washed wood

  • For an extremely white and neutral pallet you can use white washed wood. I think it looks great as flooring and then adding some color in your furniture with the white on white. The white on white also makes a kitchen feel open and airy; allowing you to add color accents with light fixtures, sinks, and tables.

3. Dark Wood

  • For more of a contrast and refined elegance you could use simply white with dark wood. It provides light to the dark and vice versa. Using a darker wood instantly gives a rich feeling to the room. With a darker floor I would choose lighter furniture to help with the contrast.

Red Lips & Red Decor//

In honor of me totally reppin’ my red lipstick today, I thought I should stick with the “red” theme! So ladies, and hopefully gentlemen, today is mood board day!

All color inflict’s different emotions on it’s viewer. Red is an extremely bold, powerful color! It’s full of passion and life, and it’s said to actually raise your blood pressure. So my tip is, keep it out of the bedroom, it could actually effect your sleep!

My mood board today is a modern, tribal look: I love all the different elements and patterns!

I added a mixture of neutral tones with bold red to even each shade out. Adding the different patterns adds texture to the cool tone furniture. The modern look goes perfect with the patterned tribal look for accents.

Never be scared to bring different elements and styles together, you never know what your creativity will bring you!

Let red empower your day every once in a while! My red lips gives me confidence!

Mood Board: Kid Edition//

Happy Monday!!

I hope everyone had a great weekend! Mine was filled with flag football games, babies, and a Cubs win! Go Cubbies!

Since I was around kids so much this weekend, I’ve been in baby fever for decorating. NO, I do NOT want kids yet! I just love their little rooms! There is so much room for creativity as an adult when helping plan and decorate a child’s room. You not only get to make their day dreams come to life, you even get to let yours!

Currently I am obsessed with little DIY Tepees for adorable reading nooks or play tents. I lived in a tepee in college when working at a kid’s camp, and it’s seriously the coolest thing! Any kid would love to have one!

Check out these photos and click the link for an easy DIY tutorial!

My favorite style for a kids room is a neutral room with eclectic, bohemian accents. This pulls color to balance out the neutrals so the room isn’t too bland. That “boho” feel is perfect for a child’s creativity. It gives them a free spirited room of discovery with some order and some chaos.

Check out some of these rooms I love:

Elements I’m obsessed with in these photos include:

  1. The branch curtain rod (left & right photo)
  2. The white walls with crayon drawings as wall art(middle photo)
  3. That RUG! (middle photo)
  4. Cozy pillow corner for reading (left photo)
  5. Blue and yellow accents with the neutral wood and white!(right photo)
  6. The tepees, of course!

Although very neutral and minimalist, all of these rooms brings to life creativity in the decor, but also allows for the child to be creative as well. Whether it be the crayon drawings, playing in their tepee or getting lost in another land with their books during quiet time, these rooms are perfect for growing, adventurous spirits.
